Does your main character need a unique and interesting sword that sets them apart from ones that use the usual longsword, shortsword or katana? Are you tired of having Filipino culture and history be underrepresented in video games? Do you want your main character to fight aswang without succumbing to the permanent incurable disease known as DEATH?!? Ok. Look no further. From top to bottom on the right, these are...

1: Kris

Originally from Indonesia, but also commonly used by the Bangsamoro people of The Philippines. It's wavy for improved cutting ability. These were common even after The Inquisition took away the people's swords in The Philippines, because the people who used these were nearly impossible to subjugate. Oh yeah, and Trese of the Netflix hit "Trese" uses a shorter version of it!

2: Bicuco.

For chopping meat, and preparing food. That's not to say it can't be a formidable weapon, though. Used by the Ilocano people in northern Luzon.

3: Kampilan

One of the few two-handed Filipino swords, possibly the only one to ever exist. There is only space for one hand on the handle, and so the second hand goes on the user's wrist. Used by Lapu-Lapu at the battle of Mactan to totally pwn Magellan. Yeah, doesn't seem like a "random island" now, does it, Mr. Uncharted?

4: Binangon

Used for chopping wood, meat, and people alike. It is a Visayan blade that later inspired the modern blade known as the "ginunting," used by The Philippine Recon Force. The ginunting was not historically used in battle, but the binangon definitely was.

5: Bolo Knife / Sword(?)

Used for chopping literally anything. Universally Filipino. This particular version is modeled after a Tagalog Bolo Knife called "Itak". It was used by the Katipuneros in The Philippine Revolution. Because of the relentless ferocity of its users in the Philippine-American war, the US army was prompted to upgrade its .38 bullets into .45 bullets. Let's just say, six bullets didn't do the job. During World War II, this weapon was used against the Imperial Japanese Army and the Makapili, notably by the schoolteacher Nieves Fernandez.
